Services/Family Therapy

Family Therapy

Family therapy looks at difficulties in the context of the whole family system. By understanding the patterns and dynamics between family members, we create space for real and lasting change.

Family therapy can help with:

  • Parent-child conflict and communication breakdown
  • Blended family adjustment
  • Separation, divorce and co-parenting
  • Grief and loss affecting the whole family
  • Adolescent behavioural challenges
  • Intergenerational patterns and trauma

Our systemic approach

Family therapy is based on the idea that problems don't exist in isolation — they arise and are maintained within the context of relationships. Rather than focusing on "the problem person," we look at how the family as a whole functions and communicates. This systemic perspective opens up new possibilities for change that individual therapy alone might not achieve.

Who attends?

Family therapy can involve any combination of family members — the whole family, parents only, siblings, or parent and child. We'll discuss what makes most sense for your situation.

How long does it take?

Family therapy tends to be shorter-term than individual therapy, often 6–12 sessions. Some families return for periodic sessions as needs arise.
