What people wonder before booking

Deciding to work with a psychologist is often the hardest step. In a city like Famagusta, where everyone seems to know everyone, a few more questions come with it. Here are the ones we hear most, answered plainly.

“Will I run into someone I know?”

It is completely understandable for this concern to come to mind when you live in a small city. At our centre, sessions and your personal information are protected in line with confidentiality principles.

If coming to the centre is not comfortable for you, you can continue the same process through online sessions.

“Turkish or English?”

You can have your sessions in Turkish or in English. English sessions are held directly with the psychologist, not through an interpreter.

For international students newly arrived on the island and for individuals from abroad, this removes the language distance in between.

“A psychologist or a psychiatrist?”

A psychologist does not prescribe medication; they carry out talk-based therapy. When a situation calls for a medication assessment, your psychologist says so openly and refers you to the psychiatrists we work with.

We have written about the difference in detail.

“I find it hard to come to the centre.”

Whether you live in Famagusta or are coming from Nicosia, Kyrenia, İskele or from off the island, if for any reason you find it hard to come to the centre, you can use the online session option.

Sessions are held over a secure video call. An online session is also 45 minutes and follows the same process as an in-person one.

“What happens in the first session?”

In the first meeting we focus on getting to know you and on understanding what brought you here and what you need.

You do not have to tell everything in that first session, or arrive at a solution right away; the process takes shape together.

“How long will I need to come to therapy?”

The length of therapy is not the same for everyone. It depends on your needs, on what we are working on and on how the process moves along.

At the start we set our goals together, and we revisit them as time goes on.

Our Approach

We start by understanding you

We shape the process together, around what you've been through and what you need. You set the pace.

The individuals who come to us are not alike: people born and raised on the island, people who have just moved here to study, people from abroad who have lived here for years. Sessions are held in Turkish or English; you choose whichever you speak more comfortably in.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What happens in the first session?

The first session is a "getting to know you" meeting. The psychologist listens to understand you and your reason for coming; you also get to know the psychologist. You don't need to share anything you're not ready to — the pace is entirely yours.

How many sessions will I need?

Duration varies by person and issue. Short-term CBT typically runs 8–16 sessions, while deeper psychodynamic work may be longer term. After the first meeting, we talk through how to go on from there together.

Is online therapy as effective as in-person?

Research shows that in individual therapy, online sessions give results comparable to in-person ones. The choice is yours: if coming in doesn't suit you, an online session follows the same process.

Are sessions available in English?

Yes. Sessions can be held in Turkish or in English. English sessions are held directly with the psychologist, not through an interpreter.

How much do sessions cost?

For current fees please contact us via WhatsApp or email.
