FAQ

Frequently asked questions

The questions people ask most often when they're considering therapy.

Starting Therapy

What happens in the first session?

In this meeting you and your psychologist get to know one another. You learn what you need to know about the psychotherapy process, and together we talk through what brings you to therapy, the difficulties you are facing, your expectations, and the significant points in your life story.

How do I know if I need therapy?

A problem doesn't need to be "big enough." If you feel overwhelmed, unhappy or stuck; if you experience recurring difficulties in relationships; if you notice significant changes in sleep, appetite or motivation — therapy may help. You can also start therapy for personal growth without any crisis.

How do I choose the right psychologist?

When you contact us we listen to your needs and match you with the most suitable psychologist. The type of issue, your preferred approach and the sense of "fit" with the psychologist are all important factors — you can gauge that fit in your first session.

Sessions & Process

How many sessions will I need?

Duration varies by person and issue. Short-term CBT typically runs 8–16 sessions, while deeper psychodynamic work may be longer term. After the first meeting, we talk through how to go on from there together.

How often should I attend sessions?

Once a week is generally recommended. This regularity supports therapeutic progress. Fortnightly sessions may be sufficient in some cases. Your psychologist will make a recommendation based on your needs.

What if I want to stop therapy?

Therapy is voluntary and you can end it whenever you choose. However, we do recommend discussing this with your psychologist. A planned ending consolidates gains and reduces any sense of "unfinished business."

Online Therapy

Is online therapy as effective as in-person?

Research shows online sessions for individual therapy are comparably effective to in-person sessions.

What technical requirements do I need for online sessions?

A stable internet connection and a device with a camera and microphone are sufficient. It's important to be somewhere private and secure — a place where you are alone and cannot be overheard. Details of the online session platform are shared before your appointment.

Confidentiality & Ethics

Will what I say in sessions remain confidential?

Yes. For your psychologist, confidentiality is the cornerstone of professional ethical codes. Except for legal exceptions (such as a risk of harm to yourself or another person, or disclosure required by court order), everything you share is entirely confidential and is carefully safeguarded by your psychologist.

Are sessions available in English?

Yes. Our team provides sessions in both Turkish and English. English-language sessions are available for foreign nationals living in North Cyprus and for international students.
