What We Work With/Online Therapy

Online Therapy

Online therapy is psychotherapy delivered over a secure video connection. Coming to the centre is not always possible. Online sessions also last 45 minutes, run in the same way as in-person sessions, and can be held in English or Turkish.

  • Live outside of Famagusta or North Cyprus

Is online therapy as effective as in-person?

Research shows that for most concerns, online sessions give results comparable to in-person ones. What matters most is the therapeutic relationship, and that can be built over video too.

Is online therapy as effective as meeting in person?

For depression, anxiety disorders and stress-related presentations, online therapy produces results comparable to in-person sessions. What determines whether therapy works is not the channel but the working relationship, and that relationship can be built over a screen.

We look at the research in more detail here: Is Online Therapy Effective?

Who is online therapy suitable for, and who is it not?

Online sessions suit anyone who finds it hard to come to the centre regularly. In some situations meeting in person is the better choice. The table sets out the difference; if you are unsure, we decide together in the first meeting.

Online works well In person is preferred
Living off the island or in another cityAcute crisis and emergencies
A heavy study or work schedulePlay-based work with younger children
Transport or mobility constraintsNeuropsychological assessment
Having a quiet, private space at homeWhere privacy at home cannot be arranged

Is an online session private, and what do I need?

Sessions run over a secure video connection and are not recorded. Sessions and your personal information are protected in line with confidentiality principles; the same applies online.

Technically, a phone, tablet or computer with an internet connection is enough. You do not need to install anything; the link is sent to you.

Being somewhere private, with a door that closes, matters. If that is not possible we look for a solution together — sometimes arranging a room at the centre is one.
