Because the options on the island are limited, people often go to the first place they find. A few things are worth checking first: that the psychologist is licensed, which age groups they work with, which language sessions will be held in, and whether you can realistically get to the centre regularly.
In most places the first meeting is an introduction and is not binding. If it did not feel right, saying so is ordinary — what most determines whether therapy works is the relationship that gets built.
Famagusta is a small place. This is one of the questions we are asked most, and it is a fair one. It is among the main reasons people put off starting.
Appointments are arranged with that in mind. Sessions and your personal information are protected in line with confidentiality principles; what you say stays between you and your psychologist.
If coming to the centre is still difficult, online sessions are an option — the same psychologist, the same length, from home.

Famagusta is a university town, and students arrive with their own set of reasons: exam anxiety, adjusting to the island, being far from family, workload, uncertainty after graduation. Sessions in English matter here, and they are available.
If you are a currently enrolled student at Eastern Mediterranean University, the university's own Psychological Counselling, Guidance and Research Centre (PDRAM) is on campus and free of charge. We would suggest looking there first.
Coming to us makes sense when you are not a student, after you graduate, if you are at another university, if you would prefer somewhere independent of your university, or if you want continuity. More detail: Student counselling
